Special Curricular Subjects
Special curricular subjects enhance the academic experience and result in proven benefits for children’s academic performance and social and emotional well-being. We have a passion for keeping special subjects in schools to allow students to experience a complete academic experience.
Music
Our music program is based on the three main methodologies of music education -Orff, Dalcroze and Kodaly- and it uses traditional children’s songs. These methodologies focus on pulse, body expression, rhythm, notation, musical opposites, sound exploration, instrument families, musical periods, and performances.
Physical Education
This course focuses on developing physical fitness and the gross motor skills required to learn and enjoy physical activity throughout a child’s life. Students will learn the basics of basketball, baseball, soccer and volleyball. They will also participate in drills geared toward building strength, agility and cardiovascular health.
Art
This program incorporates various materials such as acrylic paint, colored pencil, clay, watercolor, and oil pastels. Students will study color theory, creating texture and dimension, and shading. Art classes enable students to express themselves through various types of art. Students will learn about many artists and learn to create their own unique style.
STEAM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)
All our STEAM courses utilize a hands-on approach to learning. Students will learn the principles of each subject as they develop their own experiments and projects. These courses offer a multitude of opportunities for learning, creativity, and problem-solving as students learn to evaluate what does/does not work for their projects. They will learn how all the STEAM subjects work together as they code, build and experiment.
Languages
Spanish, French and Italian
The benefits of being bilingual or multilingual have been studied extensively. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the advantages include an active and flexible thought process and better self-control. Children will profit from acquiring a second and third language. Students will benefit from daily exposure to the language, practice oral and written communication, and participate in engaging lessons where they can practice new communication skills.
